Braddock Dogs has now collected $10,115.98 in donations! We will be submitting an application for the Mastenbrook Grant shortly, which will match up to $10,000 of our donations. Now that we have reached this milestone, we can request the full matching amount, but we'd like to raise an additional $5,000. Please help!

Donate to Support Braddock Dogs

Hello Braddock Dogs Supporters,

Thank you all for your tremendous support of Braddock Dogs and its efforts to establish an OLDA at Monticello Park. We accomplished a major milestone with the passage of the Bond referendum this November. This is a huge step in making the OLDA a reality and it could not have happened without your votes!

Our next goal is to raise the necessary funds to move forward with Park development. If we are able to obtain the required $15,000 in donations by March 31st, 2013, we can request bond funds for the development of Monticello Park as soon as July 2013. This gives us the best possible chance of having a usable OLDA as soon as possible.

Currently, we have obtained $5,430 worth of pledges. Those pledges need to be converted to donations and we need to increase our efforts to raise the additional funds to cover construction costs.

The Fairfax County Park Foundation (a 501c3 nonprofit, tax exempt organization) is managing the collection of funds. Charitable gifts donated to the Fairfax County Park Foundation are tax deductible. Donations made by December 31st, 2012 can be written off on your 2012 taxes. Make your donation while the charitable gift tax deduction still exists!

How You Can Help:

·         Donate online – visit the Fairfax County Park Foundation at http://www.fairfaxparkfoundation.org and click on “Donate Now!” in the top right. Choose your pledge amount and select “Fairfax County Park Foundation” in the drop down menus.IMPORTANT: you must specify Braddock Dogs in the Special Notes field (PayPal) or Additional Comments field (credit card) for your gift to go to Braddock Dogs.

·         Donate by phone – call 703-324-8581 to make a tax deductible credit card donation over the phone. Be sure to specify Braddock Dogs as the recipient.

·         Mail a check – checks should be made out to Fairfax County Park Foundation and sent to 12055 Government Center Parkway, Suite 404 Fairfax, VA 22035. IMPORTANT: you must specify Braddock Dogs in the Memo field on the check for your gift to go to Braddock Dogs.

Please let us know if you have any questions about donating. Thank you for your continued support,

Braddock Dogs Meeting 11/29 and Pledge Update

Braddock Dogs will hold our next meeting this Thurs, Nov 29th at 7:30pm in Braddock Hall, attached to Kings Park Library.

We want to thank everyone for supporting the Park Bond on Election Day, which passed successfully! This is great news for Braddock Dogs! Money from the park bond will be needed to address some important issues, such as building a larger parking lot and improving drainage for the communities bordering Monticello Park.

We will be joined this week by Bobbi Longworth of the Fairfax County Park Foundation. She is going to speak with us about the next steps for Braddock Dogs and the process of collecting donations. We hope to see you there!

Braddock Dogs has now raised $5,430 in pledges, 36.2% of the $15,000 goal we need to develop the Monticello Off Leash Dog Area!  If you have not pledged, please consider doing so!

September Activities for Dogs and Families

Braddock Dogs has identified some family friendly events coming up in September that would make good, fun opportunities to tell our community about Braddock Dogs and the Monticello off-leash dog area! If you are able to attend any of these events, please let us know so we can get you some flyers to distribute!
We really need volunteers to drop by each of the nearby Northern VA Regional Water Parks this Saturday, Sept 8th from 12-4pm, to distribute handouts (2-sided), and post a couple copies of the display flyers (one-sided) where people will see them. This is a great event for dogs that love to play in the water and proceeds benefit local rescues! I plan to attend Cameron Run - Great Waves Water Park with my dogs and will post flyers there. Again, flyers are downloadable here: one-sided display flyer or two-sided handout flyer, or let me know via email at braddockdogs@gmail.com if you need a stack of flyers delivered to your door.
Sincerely,
Erin Mays

Frying Pan Park 4-H Fair August 4-5

Frying Pan Park is hosting a 4-H Fair this weekend! The fair is a family friendly event, which will include dog shows, horse shows, farm animal shows, a tractor pull, rides, and a variety of other events, all in one place. The organizer of the event has welcomed Braddock Dogs volunteers to attend and pass out flyers about the Monticello Off-Leash Dog Area (OLDA).

If this sounds like something your family would enjoy, or you were already planning to attend, please e-mail us! We will be happy to drop some flyers off at your house so you can pass them out while you tour the fair. We hope this will be a great opportunity to spread word about the OLDA. We still need pledges!

Support the Westgrove Off-Leash Dog Area

There is a public Master Planning meeting for the new Westgrove OLDA on Mon, July 30th, 7pm at Belle View Elementary, 6701 Fort Hunt Rd, Alexandria, VA.

If you have dog owning friends in the Mt Vernon area, please share this with them! These folks have been fighting an uphill batter for 2 years and have widespread support for the dog park against a handful of well-connected dissenters. They are playing a numbers game on Monday. If you have time two hours free to show up in support, their dogs will be forever grateful! Additionally, Braddock Dogs will be speaking on the benefits of dog parks and sharing some lesson learned!

Help wanted!

Braddock Dogs Association is making efforts to develop an off-leash dog area (OLDA) at Monticello Park. We could very much use your help to get the word out about the OLDA at Monticello Park and the steps that need to be taken to make it a reality. Just an hour or two of your time a month to spread the word or a pledge of financial support (even just a few dollars), will help to move us so much closer to the timely completion of the dog area.
